Hello from La Ronge, Saskatchewan.
My name is Megan Heyhurst. I thought it was time for me to really put myself out there and begin to blog. I understand and appreciate the value in Photography Blogs. I figured if I was to start somewhere it might as well be about myself so people can get a feel for who I am.
I am just starting up my business. I have been taking photos since I was a toddler. My mom had a roll of film developed once and it full of images I had taken of my barbies all lined up and posing. From then I just kept going and would take pictures of everything and felt a need to be involved with our school’s yearbook. I love to take portraits. Real portraits of families and children. I love portraits of people no matter their age or occasion. I like both posed and candid portraits. I want to capture who you are. I encourage people to pick a location that has meaning to them. Wear something comfortable so that you can feel confident and truly get into the session. Some people get nervous about booking with a photographer. I know that feeling, so my goal is to make the shoot as fun as I can for everyone. You can expect a few lame jokes from me in attempt for me to get you to feel comfortable and to catch a real smile. At the same time don’t feel pressure to smile, it is ok to just be. Like I said before real lifestyle photos are a love of mine, they always turn out beautiful. I also know that sometimes we are too critical of ourselves and don’t book with photographers because we don’t like certain things about ourselves so we choose to hide and miss out on photos. I would love to change that thought process for you. I want you to feel confident with who you are on the inside and the outside and book with me and have a blast! I will do everything I can to make you feel comfortable.
Now that you know what I enjoy to photograph, I should tell you a little bit more about myself if you don’t already know me. I live in La Ronge Saskatchewan. I am a mom to two beautiful girls, and a handsome young man and two special babies that I never got to meet. I am married to the love of my life and I don’t just say that for the sake of saying something romantic. I am honest about marriage and how it is full of ups and downs and it takes work every single day. My husband Mike really motivates me to be the best person I can. He is my safe space and my biggest supporter. I am writing this today because of him. Not because he was cheering me on, but because he pushed me to see that I have not been living my life. I have been trapped in my anxiety and OCD and its not easy to be married to me. He never gives up though and that’s why I am now persuing something fun for myself. I saw in him that I needed to work harder on myself so that him and I could get to a better place. A place where I focussed less on all the house chores I had to do and place where I make time for me. In that me category is time with my kids, him, our dogs, friends, and my cameras. I know Mike will find this all very mushy but its all true. By me doing this venture for myself it also means that he will have a bit less time for himself. Enough about him and I, more about myself. I love Saskatchewan in all seasons. In the summer I like to spend as much time on the lake as I can. Im happiest when I am with my family on the boat. I am very sad every year when we pull the boat out. That just happened this past week. However with the boat away it is time for hockey and sledding. My hubby takes care of getting all the sleds up and running so the kids and I can enjoy them ha. I love to cross country ski and walk in the woods. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I am sure I annoy half of the people who follow me with the pictures of where we live, but its too pretty to not share. Hockey is a huge part of my families lives. We love to watch it and play it. For the past three winters we have also opened up our home to billet hockey players who play for the LaRonge Ice Wolves in the SJHL. Billitting has been such an amazing experience for our family.
Well that is just a quick little insight to my life and my journey of photography up to date. Stay tuned for more to come. I will try to not be slow with posting or replying, however I do run a dayhome and those kids keep me on my toes. So my availability right now is evenings and weekends.
